Homosexuality and arabs are not usually associated with each other so when mej brought up the fact that there is an lgbtq community in the arab countries, i was shocked. I was shocked because i never thought about how arabs could belong to an lgbtq community. Mej brought up key ideas about how homosexuality and lgbtq is usually associated with. White males and is essentially a western construct. Gay people have always existed, but were not identified until western countries coined them as homosexuals . In most arab countries, people who are homosexual are not outwardly present in society and people usually don"t talk about homosexuality as freely there as they do here. Also, since homosexual do not come out there, the countries do an excellent job at ignoring or denying their existence. The presidents of many arab countries say, homosexuality is a western idea and my country does not consist of such atrocities .
