We"ve learned: humans are one part of a unique and complex natural world. We are not separate from the natural world but part of it. Our lives rely on the ecosystem services nature provides. We must make choices how to manage our relationship to the environment: we consume a lot of energy. Why do we care: globalization of an ice cream sunday, over exploitation of various materials across the planet because materials are so accessible. Sustainability movement: what small changes in our consumption pattern can we implement that do(cid:374)"t have a huge impact on people"s consumption patterns: don"t want to discourage buy ins. Sustainability goals in: (cwhc: 1) climate action, 2) waste prevention, 3) healthy environments, 4) community engagement, u-m faces unique challenges in meeting our 2025 sustainability goals as our campus continues to grow. Since 2006, our building area has increased nearly 28% and the campus population has increased nearly 16%: climate action.
