Ironsi refused to respond to the demands of northerns to put coup leaders on trial. July 29 1966: coup of northern secession secession was in the north interests thought b/c they would be blocked from revenue from oil in the east and they would be land locked. Col. yakuba gowon - had interests in a united nigeria. Sept/oct 1966: another rampage of killings of ibo in the north.
