Document Summary

History 250 lecture 6 banpo village. Not entirely sure of the ethnic origin of people in the banpo village. Staple foods were millet, rice, and soy beans. Also not sure of the exact dividing line between north and south china: could be the yangtze river or the huan river. The central plain (on the yellow river) was the center of chinese culture: the hsia, shang, and zhou dynasties were centered here. The banpo village was a complete village during the years 5000 bce-4000 bce. It was enclosed with a wall and had a cemetery on the edge and was 50,000 square meters. The people domesticated dogs, pigs, cattle, and sheep. Standard houses included a living room, fireplace, kitchen, and storage: made of stamped earth (dry clay bricks) Believed that after death the soul goes to another world: buried dead with cups and other personal items.
