Document Summary

The purpose of this module was to examine visuomotor adaptation by using a prism adaptation task. The prism goggles leads to a compensation response of the visual and motor systems due to the perturbation from the prism goggles visual change. Vision has to be recalibrated to adapt to the change that the goggles cause. The cerebellum is involved in this process and is responsible for the correction to movements that aren"t accurate. Each participant stood about 5 feet from a target placed on the wall with a central point and threw a velcro covered ball. A measuring tape was used to measure the accuracy of each of the participants throws. Errors about the horizontal axis were recorded as positive, and errors to the right of the vertical axis were recorded as positive. Each participant, one with their dominant hand and one with non- dominant, threw 15 times to be used as baseline performance.
