MOVESCI 320 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Force Platform, Accelerometer, Medulla Oblongata
Document Summary
Postural control is the control of body position to be able to maintain balance and orientation. The purpose of this portion of the lab was to examine how changing an individual"s base of support affects their postural stability. This was done by looking at single and double stance postures while manipulating the surface the participant was standing on and whether their eyes were open or closed. This is important to examine because there are cases where individuals lose different aspects of their ability to control their posture and by looking at different variables the effects of these disabilities can be better understood. The equipment used in this module were a force plate and an amti program to record the participant"s movement. The participant was instructed to stand on the force plate and perform one of the eight conditions. The conditions were chosen randomly and were each done three times for 15 seconds.
