Document Summary

Definition-structure in body where two parts of skeleton are fitted together. Fibrous (synarthroses)-not moveable sutures or like structures between bones. Dense fibrous connective tissue. (find them- between fibula and tibia-proximally and distally, in teeth in mandible and maxillary bones) More like a cushion. (find them- between the two hip bones-symphysis pubis, the hyaline cartilage and discs in vertebrae) Synovial (diarthroses)-moveable fluid between bones, acts as lubricant. Cartilage on both ends of bones with a cavity created by soft tissue containing fluid that acts as a lubricant for movement. Ligaments hold bones together-dense regular connective tissue proper. Synovial joints-has a lot of sensory input (innovation) and also pain input. Typical structure of synovial joint- articular cartilage-at ends of each bone. Articular capsule-connects to periosteum of bones on either end a) b) outer layer : fibrous capsule-outer wall of cavity inner layer synovial membrane-lines inner aspect of joint cavity.
