Document Summary

Multiple layers of control provide a back-up, so if one layer is cut, the whole organ/effector site will continue to work. Skeletal muscle-neuronal only-somatic nervous system: alpha and gamma motor neurons going to muscle. Smooth muscle-neuronal-autonomic nervous system: parasympathetic and sympathetic and endocrine. Endocrine-epithelial tissue that secrete into blood-specificity is at the receptor site. Exocrine-epithelial tissue that create ducts that secrete whatever they are supposed to secrete into lumens. Endocrine-slower, longer effect (lasts as long as hormone is there and takes longer for hormones to be broken down). Both systems: duel control-both neuronal and endocrine a) b) c) d) e) heart and blood vessels. Bronchioles- digestion and motility of gi tract- reproduction- stress response- Afferent input-neurotransmitters of neurons from all over the brain. (e. g. pressure receptors, stress receptors). Receptor sites for peripheral hormones (e. g. how much estrogen is in the blood stream). System-messages released by nerves through action potentials into the blood.
