POLSCI 101 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Wage Labour, Representative Democracy, Individual And Group Rights
Document Summary
No private property, no incentive to work. Communism"s 10-point plank (all these must be met to abolish private property) No one can own land; corporations, universities, etc must rent it from the state (vs. tax incentives). It"s interesting because it"s the opposite of what we do now. When we want to attract businesses to a new town, we use tax incentives (exemptions). We have estate taxes - you can"t pass on all of your wealth to your heirs. Confiscate property of those who flee the revolution. Everyone is obliged to work; reallocation of labor to agriculture. Free public education for children and prohibit child labor. When we look at the communist"s platform, it"s radical to be sure, but it"s interesting to see how many aspects of it we actually have in our society. The state may not be doing it all, but private industry is also taking care of some of it.
