Goes the other way - reverse production. Sounds words phrases/sentences ideas. People communicate ideas by constructing and deconstructing arbitrary intermediate sounds (language) Sounds that we use to convey ideas don"t strongly correspond to the ideas. Adopted convention of putting certain sounds with certain meanings. We use symbols that correspond to ideas. Abstract concepts can be symbolized with words as well ex) table as a word is a symbol as opposed to a real thing. Not that we have been exposed to a bunch of sentences and that we"ve been positively reinforced to remember/understand.
