The study of human development seeks to understand how and why people change or remain the same over time. A critical period refers to a time when a particular type of developmental growth must happen if it is ever going to happen. A sensitive period refers to a time when a certain type of development is most likely to happen (language). A cohort refers to all persons born at about the time who experience the same historical events & cultural shifts. Ses (i. e. , socioeconomic status) is a combination of income, education, occupation, and neighborhood. Culture is a powerful social construction (a concept created by society) Plasticity refers to the possibility of change. Human traits can be molded or shaped & yet people maintain a durability of identity. Some aspects of development have a greater capacity for change than others. Differential sensitivity some people are more vulnerable than others to certain experiments.
