Defining who you are, what you value. Commitment: vocation, personal relationships, sexual orientation, ethnic, political and religious ideology. Degree in which a person has made a commitment to a set of goals, beliefs, or occupation. The degree in which a person is engaged in a sustained search for identity. Moratorium - a time out in the identity formation process. Foreclosure - accepted roles without going through any identity crises. Ethnic identity - a person"s sense of identity concerning ancestry or ethnic group membership. Multidimensional model of racial identity (sellers et al. , 2006) Racial centrality - how important race is defining your identity. Private regard - how you feel about being a member of your race. Public regard - how you think others view your race. Chavous et al. (2003) identified 4 mmri clusters: Alienated students most disengaged from school & most likely to drop out. Buffering/defensive least likely to be in college two years after graduation.
