PSYCH 280 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Hindsight Bias, Behaviorism, Internal Validity
Document Summary
When people are in a group and not being individually assessed, they don"t work as hard. Results of some experiments may seem obvious. Hindsight bias - tendency to exaggerate ability to make a prediction of an outcome after knowing that it occurred. Naturalistic observation - recording everyday behaviors as they unfold in their natural setting. Controlled observation - researcher decides where, when, who, and what are involved in the standardized observation procedure. Intensive examination of 1 individual or group. Often represent an unusual pattern of behavior. Ex: how people respond when they become suddenly famous (jk. 2+ variables are systematically measured and the relationship between them is assessed. Have a hypothesis - testable prediction about the conditions under which an event will occur; predicts outcome of a relationship between 2+ variables. As 1 thing increases, another thing increases. Correlation coefficient is between 0 and 1. 00. As 1 thing increases, another thing decreases. Ex: time spent watching tv and gpa.
