PSYCH 345 Lecture Notes - Lecture 20: Simultanagnosia, Retina, Corpus Callosum
Document Summary
3 theories of neglect: bisiach"s representational account. People with hemispherical neglect= neglects one side and can describe other side; switch to opposite side= neglects sight they previously described, can describe what they previously didn"t see: attentional accounts: Attention is selective: covert gaze vs overt, covert gaze is disrupted in neglect. Precueing task: right neglect people get left target detection wrong a lot. Therefore when right hemisphere is damaged, left hemisphere takes control and attention is diverted to the right. Three theories are compatible b/c we assume left hemisphere is stronger, and we can divert attention, and that right attentional bias will be expressed. Retinotopic: defined in relation to retina: allocentric: defined independently of observer. E: lesion causes inability to see object in that field. Simultanagnosia: cannot integrate more than one thing in visual field. Connections of corpus callosum: rostrum: temporal and frontal. Left and right orbital cortices: genus: pr efrontal cortex, rostral body=frontal and parietal.
