Facilitators of working poor: deindustrialization lost a lot of working class jobs shrinking working class. Downward social mobility: dismantling of welfare programs. Welfare reform act (1996): tried to push people from welfare to work force. Forced people into working poor jobs (single mother hit hardest) There are many reasons why people have part-time jobs instead of full- time jobs. Can"t get the hours (employer would have to give benefits)
