Religion"s impact on society has been declining since the enlightenment. Some people say the decline has been acceleraing over the last few years. It is most apparent in the industrialized west where science has had the greatest impact. There is a correlaion between educaion and lack of religious ailiaion. Pluralizaion more diferent kinds of people. Relaivity my ideas are good, but so are yours. Separaion of church and state the privaizaion of religion. With large societal issues, religions began a tendency to pick sides, which caused a lot of frustraion when people began to see religion geing tangled with social conlicts. It is now seen as being a factor in conlicts. Many people have spirituality ideas about faith and belief that are important to them but don"t extend that into formal pracice with a group. Historical materialism : history progresses, change is driven by conlicts related to producion i. e. economic or material conlict.
