Because of civic virtue we owe it to people like us to vote to that those not like us don"t win. If people feel the game is rigged, civic virtue becomes a less powerful moivator. When civic virtue loses importance, money gains inluence over people voing. The 1% gains power because they can use their money to get people to vote who will vote their way. Elecions become an investment for the 1% to spend money to get the results they want. Trust and having common interests make it easier to compromise the essence of a democraic government. Social capital the sacriices people make for the common good, believing they will be treated fairly. Essenial to the success of a society.
