STATS 489 Lecture 7: Online Surveys Notes
Document Summary
Easier to administer and more economical than traditional survey research methods. Sample validity: can"t take representative samples because we don"t have a master list of email addresses for all populations, not everyone has internet access. Stakeholder bias: people can retake a survey as many times as they want and can encourage others to complete the survey in order to influence the results, can take it with multiple email addresses. Unverified respondents: unable to control who has access to the surveys, so we can"t verify who responds to them, who they are, their location and demographic background, etc. When incentives are given, multiple responses from a single person is encouraged. It"s not possible to obtain completely representative, unbiased, and scientifically valid results from online surveys, except in closed population surveys like employees in one building, etc.
