Uc 270 lec, wed 9/28/16 freedom and constraint in the creative process. Constraints on the creative process kill intrinsic motivation which is essential to creativity. Increasing options of such trivial items such as toothpastes increases experience of anxiety and reduces customer satisfaction. Increasing 401(k) fund options reduces employee participation in a retirement plan. Research and design teams acknowledge the power of limits (time/requirements/equipment/needs/human resources/money) to aid the creative process. Increased freedom can lead to less satisfaction and decision paralysis/procrastination. Let the limits motivate/focus/challenge you, and inspire you to experiment.
