Prelude to relaionships for sex with prior basis of a strong friendship, rejecing sexual advances became diicult for young women: sex leads to quarrels. Sex enitled a girl to make claims for gits/money from a boy, thus changing the relaionship in a substanive way. Could lead poor boys to steal: inconceivable that a loving man would not share his wealth with his girlfriend. Boyfriend willing to work for money or share money was seen with breadwinning, and therefore marriage, potenial for the future. Aids originated in africa (near yaounde cameroon) part of reason why epidemic was so deadly.
