Bio notes day 1: biology is the study of life, biology is very important for human life and has many implications. It is important for controlling and treating human disease. It helps us understand the environment and how we humans affect that environment. These all play important roles in the environment. Heirarchy of units in biology: starts very simple and becomes more complex, atoms. These are the smallest form: molecules, macromolecules, cells, tissue. Then the cells come together to form tissues. Tissues are then compiled to form the organs: organs/organ systems. These are all composed of many types of tissue. These all provide a similar function: being. The organism when everything comes together: population. This is a group of organisms that are the same species: community. All of the species in a given area: biosphere. Adaptations: the difference among living things that allow them to live/survive better in different environments.
