The moon is ~1/4 of the earth in diameter and ~1 percent in mass. The rotation of the moon around the earth is about 27 days. First quarter full lunar cycle of the moon takes 27 days. Survey question: a third quarter moon is rising. Survey question: the other morning at sunrise, i saw a moon due south of my house. The moon"s orbit is tilted from the ecliptic plane. Angular size of the moon sometimes bigger (when its closet to earth) and sometimes smaller (when its farthest from earth: angular size of sun changes too, not as much as moon. Solar eclipse see corona of sun around moon. Solar eclipse = moon covering up sun, earth in shadow of moon. Annular eclipse angular size of moon is small compared so sun, still get ring around moon. Path of shadow is small, about 150 miles.
