The great witch of roman and greek antiquity even more so than circe. Medea is more human than circe, but she is also not quite human. Definitely descended from the god helios, the sun god. Her father = king aeetes of a country called colchis (a land on the shores of the black sea). The odyssey goes back to a period early enough that the black. Sea is still very unknown to the greeks. So in their imaginations they populate the sea with monsters. Jason and the golden fleece (the story where medea is discussed) Jason tries to take back his father"s throne from his uncle. The uncle asks him to complete the task of retrieving the golden. King aeetes does not want to give up the fleece. Aeetes says jason can have the fleece if he completes. Medea falls in love with jason (not naturally, though). some tasks for him .
