Executive control system:lets children plan ahead and keep goals in mind infants/toddlers attention is easily captured by intense/novel stimuli but they prefer moderately novel stimuli. As children grow older they become less distractible and are able to attend for longer periods of time. Attention develops in the context of social relationships. Tasks become more automatic and are processesed more quizly.
