Sensorimotor: birth - two yrs, focus on immediate surroundings, centered on their own bodies, trial and error, goal directed, object permanence, symbolic thought. Preoperational: 2-7 yrs, able to represent objects and events mentally, extensive pretend play, egocentrism, class inclusion: challenging, conservation: there is conservation of number, length and mass.
