But john and tammy perkins came up against a zoning requirement that had members of the naperville planning and zoning. Commission struggling to explain the issue. the perkins" applied for a zoning variance to build an enclosed, attached patio in the backyard of their home at 2443 warm springs lane. Their plans were meticulous, and it not only had their neighbors" approval, but some of them even showed up at wednesday"s meeting to lend support. But there was one detail they didn"t count on: being attached to their home meant the patio would be in violation of the zoning setback requirements. The fact that it"s detached for the home is the reason they applied for the variance, community planner suzanne thorsen told the commissioners while recommending the variance request not be approved.
