Document Summary

2/4/2016: morton kaplans rules of balance of power explained. World politics: war is expensive and costly, if they have the chance a nation will not go to war and instead pursue diplomatic solutions to gaining power. If a state has a chance to increase their power they always have to take it. Ex: conversion of germany from enemy to ally after world war 2: this is the anti-empire principle. Our international system is made up of independent nation states, and they all have their own goals and interests. If one state has ambitions to take over the whole globe, this threatens every state and every state will be against them: states will also be against any principle that threatens the international system. When there is a change or shift in power states will bring new powerful nations into their alliances as it helps everyone involved.
