Politics and economics so combined with each other that they are not that separate; both very symbiotic with each other and need to be studied together (final essay) Social scientists have long been interested in the political dynamics of the international economy. Western traditions of social thought in 18th and 19th centuries were often keenly interested in operation of international economy and its political underpinnings: adam smith, david ricardo, karl marx, frederick list, rosa. But it wasn"t until the 1970s that ipe began to be formalized as a discipline in itself. Beginning in the 1970s, big changes were underway: international trade suddenly increased, rise of multinational corporations , the usa was seen to be in decline as a global leader, financial markets began to globalize. Scholars within the field of international relations were trying to make sense of these changes.
