Recall can consciously recall contains episodic and semantic memories. Ex. learn a list of words, recall list of words. Tell someone about a movie: ability to retrieve information not currently in awareness, ex. Recognition: ability to identify info previously learned, pick the picture of 4th grade teacher, multiple choice exams. Episodic memory linked to specific place/ time: memories of past specific episodes of life, what did you eat for dinner last night, what did you learn on wednesday, part of explicit memory. Semantic memory: general knowledge, not related to specific instance but a composite of several experiences, acquired over time, what do people eat for dinner, what does psychology mean, part of explicit memory. Priming the influence a stimulus has on some measure of subsequent performance: showing people list of words then letting them complete a word and people were likely to write the word they saw.
