A collection of more than two people that have something in common. A belief about a group that may or may not be true. An attitude, generally negative, about a group. Defining prejudice: preconceived negative judgment of a group and its individual members. Beliefs about the personal attributes of a group of people: can be positive or negative, true or untrue, often over generalize. Unjustified negative behavior toward a group or its members: discrimination, racism and sexism. Prejudicial attitudes and discriminatory behavior toward people of a given race or sex. Prejudice: implicit and explicit: dual attitude system (chapter 2) Automatic: ait, subconscious primes future behavior. Categorization: classifying people into groups: spontaneous categorization. Social identity theory implies that those who feel their social identity keenly will concern themselves with correctly categorizing people as us or them. W/o categories there is no us and them.
