Defining consciousness: our awareness of ourselves, our behavior, and our environment at any given moment. Drugs: fluctuations in alertness, energy, and mood over the course of the day, biological clock. About 24-hour period (really 25 hours: these shifts are related to underlying bodily processes, daily cycles occur in: Blood pressure: changes as we get older, we seem to function better (both cognitively/physically) in our peak time, meq (morningness eveningness questionnaire) < 3 = morning lark between 3-7 = neutral. Differences across life span: college students, morning 2% neutral 48% evening 50, opposite for grandparents, our circadian cycle runs a little bit long (25 hrs. ).
