Violence between groups is easy to start and hard to end but much reason for hope. Rates of violence are actually very low in historical context. Recent quantitative reviews indicate that non-violent protest movements are actually more likely to achieve success than violent movements. We know much about how to short-circuit aggression and resolve conflict. The ipcc 5th assessment report has linked climate changes with shifts in natural disaster patterns: coastal flooding, exacerbation of weather extremes, drought intensity, global temperatures are rising. Extreme weather events may lead to increase in conflict: weather disruption causes conflict. Clear policy solutions: tax on fossil fuels, investment in transportation and energy infrastructure, de-investment in fossil fuel infrastructure, a small victory driven by students at umass, university endowment divestment from from coal (divest umass) Household income still below peak it"s peak year (since 2000 for bottom 60%??!!)
