Autoerotic activity has a stigma associated with it for teens: consequently, it is difficult to study and the current research suffers from unreliable data. The best estimates indicate that the majority of boys begin masturbating around age 13 and by 19 about 90% of boys have masturbates. Girls report lower rates of masturbation: about 33% by age 13 and 60- 75% by age 20: though most adolescents masturbate, they regard the practice with ambiguity. Oral sex has become more common and acceptable among teens than in previous generations. Mostly heterosexual in nature and typically with similar age mates. Males typically initiate sexual touching girls may allow themselves to be touched but generally require greater emotional involvement or commitment before initiating genital touch. Coitus seems to be initiated earlier in teens lives: first coitus is typically around age 17 for females, 18 for males. In previous generations only about of women had premarital sex, not nearly 95% do.
