BIOL 207 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Precursor Cell, Holocrine, Ground Substance
Document Summary
Cells of endocrine glands empty secretions into circulations. *here the epithelial cells lining glands secrete and empty contents (secretions) into ducts that empty onto open surfaces or intercavities. Based on shape of gland or duct. Empty contents on respiratory, digestive, urinary and reproductive systems. Have epithelial cells that produce/discharge secretions by exocytosis. Cells die and release material as they are dying. Pinch off apical part (top of cells) and regenerates itself. Found in fat secreting cells of mammary glands and some sweat glands (apocrine sweat glands) Found almost all over body except palms of hands and soles of feet. Bacteria on body breakdown oils and reduce orders. In 2 regions: groin (uro genital) and armpit areas (axillary) Made up of widely scattered cells surrounded by considerable intercellular/extracellular matrix. *homogeneous product of ct cells that it surrounds and which varies from a fluid to a semi-solid gel consistency. Ct cells produce ground substance and fibers.
