Aka Anatomy 2
Lecture 20
March 17th, 2018
- Oral cavity opens up into oropharynx via opening (fauces)
* Fauces
- Airway region (archway) that connects OC with OP
- Bounded by 2 arches
2 arches
- Palatoglossal
- 1st arch
- Closest to tongue
- Anterior arch
- Palatopharyngeal
- 2nd arch
- Closest to pharynx
- Posterior arch
Larynx
- Thyroid cartilage
- Laryngeal prominence
- Largest cartilage
- Makes up most anterior surface
- Epiglottis
- Elastic cartilage
- Attached on top of thyroid cartilage
- Stem allows it to open/close
- Covers opening of larynx
- Cricoid
- Single ring
- Forms most of posterior surface
- Connected to trachea
- Ourytenoid
- Paired cartilages
- Located on lateral surface of cricoid cartilage
- Cricoid cartilage connected via voluntary muscles to vocal cords
- Glottis
