- Myoglobin
- Stores O2 in muscle
- Hemoglobin
- Made up of 4 non proteins (heme) and one protein ( globin)
- Role of CAD
- Reactants can go both ways
- Depends on concentration of reactant
- Normal pH = 7.4
- Slight deviation under: acidosis (7.3 or under)
- Slight deviation above: alkalosis (7.5 or above)
- CO2 + H2O + <---CAD→ H2Co3 ←----> H(+) + HCO3 (bicarbonate ion)
- Bohr effect
- * occurs in tissues
- * relates to O2 content of hemoglobin vs ambient (surrounding conditions) PCO2
and all other waste products
- * O2 content of HB in blood related to/depends on # of following items:
- Co2
- H+ (hydrogen ion)
- 2--3 BPG ----> normal waste product of anaerobic respiration
- Ph ----> result of hydrogen ion production
- Blood temp. ----> = rise in O2 release
- Haldane effect
- Relates to Co@ content of hemoglobin and Hydrogen ions of blood
- * # CO2 transported by Hb of blood is greatly affected by degree of oxygenation
of blood
- * the lower the PO2 and thus lower the degree of Hb saturation = the more CO2
can be carried by Hb of blood cell
- BPG (2-3 BPG)
- Natural byproduct of anaerobic respiration

Document Summary

Made up of 4 non proteins (heme) and one protein ( globin) Slight deviation under: acidosis (7. 3 or under) Slight deviation above: alkalosis (7. 5 or above) Co2 + h2o + h(+) + hco3 (bicarbonate ion) * relates to o2 content of hemoglobin vs ambient (surrounding conditions) pco2 and all other waste products. * o2 content of hb in blood related to/depends on # of following items: Ph ----> result of hydrogen ion production. 2--3 bpg ----> normal waste product of anaerobic respiration. Relates to co@ content of hemoglobin and hydrogen ions of blood. * # co2 transported by hb of blood is greatly affected by degree of oxygenation of blood. * the lower the po2 and thus lower the degree of hb saturation = the more co2 can be carried by hb of blood cell. 2 clusters of neurons in medulla control ventilation: ventral respiratory group (vrg) - medulla, dorsal respiratory group (drg) - medulla.
