EHS 310 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Tarsometatarsal Joints, Subtalar Joint, Hyaline Cartilage
Document Summary
Provide shock absorption and thrust to body when walking. Pliability - absorbs force of body weight. Functions through interrelated joints, ct tissues and muscles. Talus bone include in ankle and foot. Remaining tarsal bones, transverse tarsal bones and distal intertarsal joints. Distal end is lateral ,malleolus of ankle. Distal end in medial malleolus of ankle. Torsion angle of tibia approx 20 - 30 degrees of intra-tibial external rotation. Articulates w/ tibia and fibula at talocrural joint. Articulates w/ navicular bone at talonavicular joint. Important kinesiological role in foot/ankle in lower extremity. Attaches to achilles, intrinsic foot muscles and plantar fascia. Aka keystone bone of medial longitudinal arch of foot. Articulates w/ talus at talonavicular joint and cuneiform bones. Attach to transverse arch, medial arch and lateral arch (less) Articulates w/ calcaneus, lateral cuneiform, navicular and metatarsals. Plantar surface of mts are slightly concave longitudinally. Transfers load through 1st and 2nd while walking. Triplanar motions but move at oblique axis.
