Use experimental design if goal is to test a treatment/intervention. Only explanation for change in dependent variable relates to how people were treated (independent variable) How valid are the findings in the study. Things that occur during study that affect participant results along with treatment. Participant growth can alter results of study. Participants get better on tests if they take it multiple times. Changing equipment and how things are calculated may affect results of study. If group scores high/low on first test but scores closer to mean of population on second test. Ex. participants who are outliers (don"t typically represent whole population) Multiple loss of participants during study will affect outcome. The sample of the subjects does not represent population anymore.
