Osteoid tissue produced first then organic component crystallized onto the osteoid. All bones below skull produced this way, except clavicles intramembranous. Endochondral ossification involves production of cartilage bone model which is replaced by bone in long bone production surrounded by pericardium increased blood supply and it becomes periosteum lay down bone material around center of shaft. Primary ossification center cartilage at center of shaft starts to die due to lack of nutrients. Leaves spaces on center of shaft send blood vessels into spaces (periosteal bud) With increased blood supply, deposit blood around broken pieces of cartilage. Results in spongy bone then, medullary cavity opens up epiphyses become bone when secondary ossification center develops. White cap at end of bone - articular cartilage. Intramembranous bone formation produce membrane deposit bone spicules under membrane until they join to form plate. Bone growth of long bone cartilage grows appositionally or interstitially appositional.
