Document Summary

Yes, because we evolved -- connections between our behavior and ability to reproduce. Human mate preference mate choices? human primates? can our knowledge of evolutionary theory and primate behavior inform our understanding of human. Based on evolutionary theory, what qualities in a mate might we predict to be favored by female. Female reproductive success is dependent on her capacity to acquire enough food to feed herself and her extensively dependent offspring. Male reproductive success is based primarily on the fertility of his partner(s). However, highly- dependent offspring may require paternal investment as well. Inbreeding avoidance matings between close relatives is very rare in non-human primates dispersal has high costs, but that is outweighed by cost of remaining in natal groups physiological and sensory cues that further inhibit inbreeding. Despite the incredible diversity of human cultures, close inbreeding is not practiced. Sibling and half-sibling marriage is not allowed in any known culture today.
