Venus, mars and moon has no magnetic field. Even though venus probably has liquid outer core, there"s no convection because it spins so slowly. Earth is the only planet with magnetic field. Magnetic field is vertical at the north pole. Geomagnetic poles and equator are different than geographical poles and equator. Above 580 degrees, magnetic energy is moving around. As mineral cools, the thermal energy becomes too small to move against the external magnetic field of earth. Magnetic field forces the minerals to align with the external magnetic field. If you northwest of hawaii, there is a chain of inactive volcanoes. Flip of earth"s magnetic field occurred 800,000 years ago. New crust is being created in the mid-atlantic ridge from molten lava. If you make new crust some place, you have to destroy it in another place. During earthquakes, lithospheric material sinks to the mantle. North american plate is going over pacific plate.
