Arjun Appadurai’s concept of ’scapes: Global exchange of ideas and information
-Ethnoscape: Migration of people across cultures and borders, presenting the world
and its communities as fluid and mobile instead of static.
-- Technoscape: New types of cultural interactions and exchange through the power of
technology.
-Finanscapes: Technology is closely related with the finanscape that is close tied with
the economy, which constantly flux, and despite our best efforts to manipulate it, it’s
very unpredictable.
-Mediascape: Understood as the many media outlets (TV, Radio, Newspaper etc…)
that shape our the imagined world. The stories and pictures we are shown through
these mediums form our opinions about a place or culture.
-Ideoscape: Ideologies of a government and those who oppose it and it’s highly
dependent on the context of the spectator.
Mediation and Culture: How different cultural backgrounds can affect how people
solve conflicts and disputes. Mediation is a tool that helps to decrease the gap between
differences, and this requires knowing and respecting cultures that you meet.
