Document Summary

Tunisia"s the most democratic of the as countries. Despite the protests, the state of democracy is relatively the same as it was before . The difference between failure" and success" has been the military. If power structures are still bound to the state, the executive doesn"t necessarily matter. The type of transition affects the short and long term future. Countries that were oil poor and non-hereditary (egypt, tunisia, etc. ) were overthrown. Libya, an oil rich country, did experience uprisings, but they were foreign- imposed by nato, america, and european countries. Syria has a hereditary regime, but it also got overthrown for similar reasons. Tunisia"s founding elections had the islamic share of seats at 41%, while egypt"s brotherhood held 71% of seats tunisia is more balanced in its seats. Tunisia also had a full constitutional assembly, civilian led transition, and a consensual government. Egypt is still fairly rural, only largest cities are very urban areas.
