Things that make up america"s leisure history from other cultures: road trips, football, boy scouts, playgrounds. Sports can lead to social change: america started baseball and first to integrate races to play, ex: jackie robinson. Social movements served as major impetus in systematizing leisure. Social movement- significant effort for social change: ex: women rights, types of social movements, changes in the number and variety of social roles in a society. Ex: women in 60s could only be teachers or nurses after college: changes in obligations or duties attached to roles. Ex: man goes to work, women stay home and takes care of house and children: new ways of organizing societal activities, redistribution of power and rewards.
