Document Summary
Qualitative research- doesn"t involve numbers but we look at a collection of a variety of empirical materials that describe routine and problematic moments and meanings in individual lives. Larger aspects of a social phenomena: qualitative = big picture of why, examples of qualitative research: Structured interviews vs. semi-structured: structured interviews set number of questions and you only ask the questions on the list. Ex: you have 10 questions you always ask. When do you typically surf: semi-structured- you ask a question which might lead to a question not on the list . Then the person tells you wrightsville before they got hurt. Then you ask how did you get hurt which isn"t a question you would ask everyone. Focus groups- a certain type of group that you bring into a room and you ask them questions of what they all look for. Observations- things you can observe about something, part of how people act at the event.
