Document Summary

Specifics of transcription: sigma factor binds to a region of the dna called the promoter. Only one strand of dna acts as a template. This is called the sense strand or template strand. The strand not transcribed is the nonsense strand or nontemplate. Rna polymerase binds to the sigma factor + promoter complex: elongation. The single-stranded mrna transcript is synthesized in the 5" to 3" direction. Rna polymerase advances along dna, melting a section at a time and allowing the previous section to close (h-bond) When polymerase encounters the terminator code it dissociates from dna and releases mrna. Initiation of transcription at a eukaryotic promoter: what happens in eukaryotic cells. Notice that it looks a bit like the -10 element of bacteria but it"s at a different location.
