MUSC 1001 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Figured Bass, Key Signature, Contrapuntal Motion
Document Summary
Symbols that are given underneath the bass staff to give information that is not included within the staff. The sharp symbols in exercises 2, 5, 8, and 9 of 9. 1 are informing the musician that there is a sharp in the chord that is not included in the key signature. We are adding the sharped 7th of a harmonic minor in these examples. Parallel fifths and octaves only occur when changing the chord. A repeated chord does not have parallel fifths or octaves. Never create more than an octave of space between tenor and alto, or alto and soprano. Tenor and bass is common to have more than one octave of space. Contrary motion when necessary to avoid parallel motion.
