The way that people in the novel treat others is very judgmental. Ex: when everyone blames potter for the murder because he was there just because he is the town drunk. So that the resurrection man can not come take the body. Thieves were going after the body itself (for medical purposes?) These behaviors shed light upon the reality of the adult professions and adult behaviors and portray them in a dark light. Taking apart how people are behaving in church (thought that the choir and their performances were awfully ridiculous) One of the great tortures of twains life in his opinion was that he was forced to go to church. Church services are 2-3 hours long and consist of a lot of negative experiences for him. The adults did not act any different from the children in some ways.
