ENGL 216 Lecture 22: Barrie 1
Document Summary
"god blast anyone who writes a biography of me" Wanted himself to stay a boy and never grow up. Was always more concerned with the play of children than the lives of adults. Very interested in the david"s family (a family with 5 boys) and their sheep dog and how the children played with the dogs and interacted with barrie. The parents of the 5 boys passed away, so he then took over as their guardian because he was so fascinated with them. Barrie"s obsession with being a child and resisting growing old was/is essential to the plot and understanding of peter pan and wendy. Widely popular because it is such a mash-up/mix of different elements that help to craft a good story and setting. At the time readers were obsessed with fairies, which also contributes to the popularity of the book and interest among readers. Pan= a saidor, or the god of the woods (panic)
