Individual- overt acts that cause death, injury, destruction of property, or denial of services or opportunity. Institutional- policies, practices, and procedures of institutions that have a disproportionately negative effect on racial minorities" access to and quality of goods, services, and opportunities; way in which racism is embedded in the fabric of society. Systemic- basis of individual and institutional racism; it is the value system that is embedded in a society that supports and allows discrimination. Colorblind racism- saying that you don"t see races is problematic to acknowledge something that has a big effect on people"s lives; even though race doesn"t play in choosing friends, coworkers, or lovers. Social construction of race- more sociological way of understanding racial categories and suggests that race is not biologically identifiable; further, that previous racial categories were arbitrarily assigned, based on pseudoscience, and justify racist practices.
